Marianne Vos points the target in Viù

The phenomenal Dutch champion, winner of three Giro Rosa Iccrea, took the win of the stage 2 od the 2019 edition of the Giro Rosa, with a strong sprint in Viù (Turin). Her last stage win at the Giro Rosa was last year in Breganze (Vicenza), but today's podium was fully from the Netherlands, including Annemiek Van Vleuten (Mitchelton - Scott, winner of the Giro 2018, and Lucinda Brand (Team Sunweb).

The race started fast and on the Colle del Lys a crash involved Elisa Longo Borghini (Trek - Segafredo) and the Pink Jersey Katarzyna Niewiadoma, who restarted without problems. Sofie De Vuyst (Park Hotel Valkenburg) and Antri Christoforou (Cogeas - Mettler - Look Pro Cycling) passed on top of the Colle del Lys and have been chased at the end of the descend. A few kilometers later the German of Alé - Cipollini Romy Kasper and the Belgian Kelly Van den Steen attacked and reached a gap of about 3'. The breakaway started to lose the gap before the Intermediate Sprint in Lanzo Torinese it has been taken at less than 10 kms to go. Many counterattacks happened but Marianne Vos was the fastest in Viù. The Olympic and World Champion Anna Van der Breggen (Boels - Dolmans) and the best Italian of the stage Soraya Paladin (Alé - Cipollini) finished below the podium. Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon - SRAM) keeps the Pink Jersey.

The Stage 3 tomorrow goes from Sagliano Micca to Piedicavallo, near Biella, for 104.1 kms.
